This week's "New Artist to Look Out For" is the hip hop production duo TNGHT, aka Hudson Mohawke and Lunice. These two are bringing the hip hop element to EDM and making a smash. Their single "Bugg'n" was met with rave reviews as was the EP that followed, but it was their breakout at SXSW that was literally a smash hit. By that I mean, the duo's basstastic banger "Buggn'n" broke a plate-glass wall during their show. Dang boys! Although that wasn't discovered until after the fact, it's the kind of story that spreads quickly and adds a certain flair.

Although they may be TNGHT now, the two were never neighbors. Hudson Mohawke is from Glasglow, Scotland and Lunice is from Quebec. The two found each others music on MySpace and then decided to meet when HudMo's LuckyMe crew was in Canada for Pop Montreal in 2008. It wasn't until last summer that the two booked a studio in London and created their self tilted EP. This was met with awesome applause as their music is like nothing else. Their sound is called "trap-rave" with wonky synths, sampled sounds, 808 kicks and crunk cuts. It's all around genre-fused hip-hop electronica.

Hip hop is the element that ties it all together because they both have a history in hip hop, with Lunice being a pop-locker and breaker and HudMo being a turntablist and the youngest U.K. DMC finalist at age 15. As Lunice says, "That's where we're from and how we grew up. Anything we do, no matter what it sounds like, comes out of that world." They're certainly becoming a part of both the hip hop world and the world of EDM as Hudmo has contributed to Kanye West's "Mercy" and Diplo is in full support of the duo. They're just leaked "R U Ready" song was first heard in the hands of Kanye West at a Victoria's Secret show last year, and Kanye even came out on stage during their last NYC show as they dropped his track "Cold".

With backings from Diplo and Kanye West, and music that's innovative and pushing the boundaries of hip hop and electronica, these two are sure to explode in 2013. Keep a look out!!
