Hello VIP Club Scene Magazine readers! Today we are focusing on the Pineapple pizza also known as Hawaiian Pizza, debate. Does pineapple belong on top of pizza? Many feel strongly against this topping so here’s a little history on where it came from. The Hawaiian Pizza, which is the name of the pizza that has ham and pineapple toppings, was created in 1962 in Chatham, Ontario, Canada. Sam Panopoulous was the creator behind this controversial food at the Satellite Restaurant. In 1999 Hawaiian pizza accounted for 15% of pizza sales in Australia making it their most popular pizza.
Even though Hawaiian Pizza has been around since the 1960’s, recently, there has been much debate around the topic. Pineapple is sweet and many argue it shouldn’t go on pizza because of that, but that’s what makes it so different. It’s like with cilantro, you either love it or hate it. There’s no in between. Whether you like pineapple as a topping on your pizza or not, one thing we can all agree on, is that cheese belongs on pizza.
