Cliche as it may sound, I've been pretty positive that my heart was left at EDC last weekend. Even when you aren't taking the incredible audio of those three days under the electric sky into account, it's hard to leave the circus-like production. But yesterday, an unforgettable event brought back the exquisite charm of a youthful circus- and it brought it to the Bay area.
Right in downtown Mountain View, elaborate costume-wearing women on stilts and dancing hoola hoopers graced the Monte Carlo venue for a night titled Vaudeville. By definition, the name means "a theatrical genre of variety entertainment," and it surely was! While festivals have provided theatrics and decor of this fashion, this is seldom seen in the club scene. What better place to test new boundaries than in a region considered the heart of all innovation and progress?
Blending on-floor entertainers with upbeat big room DJ sounds made for a wild party under the Monte Carlo's several chandeliers. The night began around 10 but the party didn't really begin to escalate until around 11:30 pm, when people flooded in and headed straight for the dance floor, soon to be overflowing with confetti and giant balloons.
