Bass Kleph, real name Stuart Tyson, came onto the music scene at the age of 15 when he joined the rock group, Loki, as their drummer. Though Bass Kleph got to tour Australia and New Zealand, being in a rock band wasn’t his ultimate destiny. Knowing that he wanted to move towards an electronic sound and focus on DJing, he quit the band after the release of their first album.
Ten years later Bass Kleph is living out his dreams. He’s a Beatport and ARIA dance chart #1 act and remixer, a pop songwriter, the boss of two labels (Vacation Records & Exit Row) and one of the most popular/awesome live DJs on the festival circuit. In 2010 and 2011 he started off with Beatport #1s, with the remix of Shake Down and then his own record “I’ll Be Ok.” He has toured the US multiple times, and continues to have success collaborating with pop songwriter Chris Arnott, BKCA.
Being in a rock band and having done hundreds of gigs at clubs and huge festivals has gotten Bass Kleph where he is today. These gigs taught him the craft of playing live and DJing. You have to be able to keep the crowd moving. And Bass Kleph hasn't stopped moving either - he has a brand new radio show called Klephtomania - tune in here!
We were lucky enough to catch Bass Kleph for an interview when he performed at Vessel SF - check out the December issue to read the full article and interview!!
